Welcome to November
Enrolments Now Open!

Dear Parents/Families,
I would like to acknowledge the Dharawal people, the Traditional custodians of the lands on which I live and work today. I pay my respects to elders past, present and future for they hold the memories, traditions, culture and hope of Aboriginal Australians.
Please make sure to check our August Calendar of Events on our OWNA app and our website to avoid missing out on any special events that might occur on the days your child/ren attend. Participating in these events helps educators plan for future events and shows great partnerships with families when it comes to assessment and rating.
HDK’S parent committee is open for new committee members, if you are interested, please shoot Miss Sam an email and she can add you into our mailing list. We completely understand parents and families’ busy schedules which is why our parent committee is email based.

Clothing
ALL children must bring spare clothing every day; even if completely toilet trained.
This to ensure that in the event of an accident, split food or messy play they have clothing to change into.
Infectious Illnesses
Please HELP us contain infectious illnesses by keeping your child at home when they are sick. If your child is absent from school due to an illness, please make sure to bring in a clearance form from the doctors on their next booked day. If your child has been sent home from school on their booked day, in correspondence to our SICK CHILDREN’S POLICY, your child must stay home for 24 hours before bringing them back, to reduce the spread of illnesses and also provide a Doctor’s Clearence. If a Doctor’s Clearence is not provided your child/ren will not be able to attend for the day.
Lunch Boxes
We also ask children have a healthy lunch each day. Some examples of this may include a sandwich, a piece of fruit or vegetable and a yogurt or some crackers.
Please do not pack lollies, chocolate, chips, Nutella, juice, popcorn, rollups etc.
While these are fun sometimes food to enjoy at home, At Happy Days we have a nutrition policy that we are required to follow and appreciate your understanding in this regard.

What we got up to last month...

Space Week
This years World Space Week theme was ‘Living in Space’. The children at HDK explored Space through a variety of small worlds, dramatic play areas, sensory experiences, books and songs. World Space Week 2025 was set to educate, inspire, and connect the global community, focusing on humanity’s strides in developing sustainable living solutions for space.
Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day is an opportunity for Australians to say thank-you to grandparents for their care and support and for sharing their knowledge, experience and traditions with younger generations. To celebrate our amazing grandparents, HDK hosted a fun filled morning tea. The children and their grandparents engaged in experiences such as colouring in, play dough, threading and biscuit decorating. In honour of Day for Daniel, we asked everyone to wear the colours red. Day for Daniel is Australia's largest child safety and awareness event, honoring the memory of Daniel Morcombe and promoting child safety education through initiatives like wearing red, educating children, and donating.

Halloween Disco
Throughout October, HDK had a spooktacular time exploring the theme of Halloween through arts & crafts, dramatic play, potion making and music. The excitement reached its peak during our Spooky Halloween Disco! The children had a frightfully fun time dancing, playing games and showing off their amazing costumes.

Healthy Harold Incursion
The Wombats were so lucky to have a visit from Healthy Harold and Miss Belinda! Miss Belinda taught the Wombats all about Harold’s healthy habits. Brushing his teeth, being active, washing hands, drinking lots of water, trying new foods and resting.
The Wombats got to experience heaps of fun games with Miss Belinda. The Wombats engaged in a range of games including being active, choosing which food is healthy for Harold, watching informative videos about Harold being healthy and so much more! Healthy Harold got to make an appearance for the Wombats and they were so excited! Healthy Harold taught the Wombats why we stay active, brush our teeth, wash our hands and so much more. We even got to have a little boogie.
The Wombats engaged in each activity and were so interested they had a question for every activity and an answer for every question. It was amazing to see how happy the Wombats were learning so many new things!
The Wombat teachers ( and Harold ) are so proud of the Wombats this morning! We love seeing the Wombats thrive! 🤍

Learning Group for 3-4 year olds
October Recap
For the month of October, the Junior Wombats focus has been ‘Name Writing and Letter Formation’ as they continue to develop their fine motor skills. These foundational literacy and fine motor skills are essential for supporting confident and capable early readers and writers as they prepare for big school. Throughout the month, we explored the formation of letters, the correct use of upper and lowercase letters and worked towards writing our names accurately. Our Junior Wombats engaged in fun, hands-on experiences that strengthened pencil grasp, letter formation and name writing. It has been incredible to watch our Wombats as they become confident in identifying their names, using upper and lowercase letters correctly and begin to use the correct formation of letters as they write their names. We are so proud of our Junior Wombats and absolutely love watching them have fun in their learning!

Wombat Kindy's
Learning Group for 4-5 year olds
School Readiness
This month for school readiness, the Kindy Wombats have been busy building their literacy awareness!
We’ve been practicing correct letter formation, identifying both upper and lower case letters, and perfecting our name writing. Through our name writing activities, we learnt that our names start with a capital letter and the rest are lowercase. The children have also enjoyed matching uppercase and lowercase letters and recognising the sounds they make. We also have almost finished our Letter of the Week and have loved singing songs about our last couple of letters.

Projects
Halloween Project
This month our project focus was Halloween! The Possums and Wombats joined spooky forces together and crafted some ghoulish Halloween decorations for our Halloween disco! The Possums and Wombats worked together, collaborating with one another on a month long project of spooky crafts. Starting off with Jack o lantern paintings, spooky dangling creatures and a scary dangly spider web to set off our Halloween Disco

October Recap
Building Resilience
For the month of October, the children at HDK focused on Building Resilience. The Possums explored this topic by playing the cookie challenge and musical statues. The cookie challenge taught the Possums that while things don’t always go our way, we can support each other, share and move forward with a positive attitude. Musical statues taught the children that it’s okay to get out of a game and not always be the winner. We reflected on how trying our best, cheering for others and managing disappointment are all apart of building resilience.
The Wombats explored this topic by participating in a block building challenge in teams. This challenge allowed the children to work together, problem solve and implement new strategies to build the highest tower. This encouraged the children to communicate effectively and to take a breath and reset when their building didn’t go as planned. The Wombats also explored an activity where they pulled a scenario out of a hat and discuss how these scenarios might make us feel and how we can overcome them. This was a great experience for the children to develop their emotional awareness and problem solving skills all whilst building a supportive and resilient classroom.

Eco-Warriors
Happy Days Sustainability Program
...when Fun and Responsibility meet
October Recap
For the month of October the Wombats and Possums have been learning how to plant and look after herbs in the garden. They have also focused on preparing the garden beds ready for new plants to be added. The Wombats and Possums enjoyed watching informational videos, participating in mind maps, turning over the soil, weeding the garden beds, painting garden ornaments and planting seeds.
Learning to plant and care for herbs in early years is important because it develops fine and gross motor skills, encourages healthy eating, fosters responsibility and patience, and promotes emotional well-being and a love for nature through sensory exploration and hands-on learning. It also provides an early introduction to scientific concepts and sustainability.

This month in Munch and Move, the focus was on team activities and games that encouraged children to work together while staying active. The sessions promoted cooperation, communication, and fair play through fun group challenges and movement games. Children learned how to support one another and celebrate teamwork while developing their physical skills. Overall, it was a great way to combine healthy movement, friendship, and fun throughout the month.
